Resources
Below is a list of resources I use frequently when researching and developing my characters.
Character Development/Improvement
CharDev
This is a site that I’ve found to be an invaluable resource. By creating an account, you can import character data from the Armory, or start a character from scratch, and create gear sets from any piece of equipment in the game, and save them to your profile for later reference. This is great for previewing stat-changes based on upgrades you’re looking at, or establishing wish lists from content you hope to get into in the future. You can also apply gems and enchants to items, so you get a realistic look at what changes will take place in-game.
Be Imba!
For your PvE characters that are already 70, this resource will help you determine which changes will optimize your character. It gives warnings to let you know things like: Are you at, under, or over your hit cap? Are your items properly enchanted? Do you have items without enchants? Do you still have low-level items that should be replaced? These are just a few of the things that Be Imba! can warn you about.
WoW Gem Finder
This site will help you find the perfect gems for all your socketed gear, from common gems to epic gems, and tell you how to get them.
WoW Web Stats
This site is commonly used by raiders to parse their combat log data and give them an insight into what actually has gone on during their raids. It can show you general information such as dps output, heals, damage taken and more; but it can also show you every spell/ability used by every person in the group. WWS is often utilized as a key means for determining ways to improve overall raiding performance by many guilds worldwide.
Armory Light
This site offers many of the same functions as the official WoW Armory, but often has a much faster load time, particularly when the Armory is experiencing heavy traffic.
TalentChic
TalentChic displays the most popular talent builds for all classes and specs, culled directly from the Armory.
General Resources
Bosskillers
Listings of user-submitted boss strategies for every raid boss in the game. This site includes guides, videos, and images.
Kaliban’s Class Loot Lists
It’s my personal belief that every WoW player who hopes to have a level 70 of any class should take a gander at this site at least once. It provides great information on the types of loot you should be looking for and where to find it, for all the classes of the game. It’s a fairly comprehensive list and also includes information not only on quest and word drop items, but also items found in various raids as well as tier gear information.
Realm History
This site provides interesting stats and information about every server. It has a searchable database to locate any character and/or guild on any realm. This site’s particularly interesting if you’re wondering what raid progression is looking like, worldwide or just on your own server. See which guilds have made it the furthest through the end-game content!
Thottbot
This site needs no introduction. Thottbot, like Allakhazam, is well known amongst members of the WoW community as a very comprehensive general resource for game information.
WoW Wiki
This site is one of my personal favorites, and I use it almost daily. If you have a question about anything game-related, chances are you can find the answer here. It has an extremely comprehensive searchable database of information on everything and anything WoW-related. I use it, in particular, for searching items from faction rewards, gear sets, profession patterns/items, and instance and raid information. Also worth checking out are the class information pages, they’re very detailed. (More on this, for hunters, below.)
WoWHead
This site is a lot like WoW Wiki, but I’ve found it’s especially useful for looking up quest information and instance/raid boss drops. Any time I’m doing a quest, I always look it up here (rather than even read the quest text) and am well on my way in no time.
WoWJutsu
Track world-wide raid progression, as well as realm-specific raid progression, and find out where your guild is ranked in both World-wide, US, and server progression. Check which bosses any guild in the game has killed, their recent loot, and their rosters.
MapWoW
View maps of any zone in the game, as well as gathering information and points of interest.
Free With Mats
Need to have something crafted, and don’t know anyone that can make what you need? Check the listings on this site to see if someone has registered that can make the item you need and find out what they charge (if anything) for their services!
Gank Bang
Compare your character’s stats to others of your class on your server, across specific battlegroups or across the US.
Hunter-Specific Resources
Petopia
Every hunter should visit this site. It gives tons of information on all the trainable pets found in the game, as well as what skills they provide and where they can be found. An invaluable resource for hunters looking for the perfect pet to suit their needs.
The Hunter’s Guide
A great resource for general information about the class, as well as specific mathematical equations for calculating various hunter-related information (such as shot dps, rotations, etc). This site also gives very informative How-To’s.
WoW Wiki - Hunter
A section of WoW Wiki dedicated specifically to the hunter class. Because of the nature of wikis (having user-submitted, edited and corrected information available), this site is extremely comprehensive and informative in relation to all aspects of playing the hunter class. One word of warning, however, is that some information presented here may not reflect the current nature of the game as a result of current patch changes. I would definitely suggest reading through all the various hunter-related pages available, though, as they generally contain a lot of great information, some of which may not necessarily be common knowledge.
WoW Hunter Macros
This site provides several great macros to help make any hunter’s job easier! Updated weekly to provide the must current, patch-compliant macros.
