PuG Bingo: Classic

Cruce on the Scarlet Crusade-US server shared a really great idea on the official forums recently: LFG Bingo. The intent of the game was to have a little fun farming Emblems while grinding your teeth through bad PuG after bad PuG, and I thought the idea was a lot of fun and an extremely creative way to make the best of what could potentially be a very bad situation.

So, first of all, big kudos to Cruce for sharing the idea with us! (And to WoW.com for tipping us off to this great find.)

Now, with credit given where it’s due for this awesomesauce from concentrate, let’s get to the point of this post, shall we?

The folks that follow me on Twitter know that I like to have fun messing around with PhotoShop putting together random images from source material I’ve taken from the game or other game-related sources. What does that have to do with PuG Bingo? Simple! I threw together my own version of LFG Bingo!

Cruce’s versions of the Bingo cards were clearly intended for level 80 players doing heroics, but what about all those alts out there working their way through classic content? There’s plenty of baddies running around in the 15-60 range to make you gnash your teeth in frustration (I know, I’ve seen it–if you can imagine a way to wipe a group in BRD, I’ve witnessed it in the past week), so I put together a Bingo card for the classic crowd.

If you’d like to create your own Bingo cards, I’ve got a blank template of the card shown above that you can download here. What would you add to your Bingo card that you’ve seen happening frequently in your classic dungeon PuGs?

I just dipped my toe into the dungeon finder with my 35 priest with great trepidation and I was not dissapointed. My insane run included a hunter that started pulls. I told him not to be a huntard and that if he pulled again I would not heal him. Suddenly he decided to stop.

I am totally guilty of the boa one as all my alts on my main server are boaed to the teeth.

Deja Vu, well sorta. I the hunter, was running Uld the first time through the random LFG system and I had a priest keep insisting I wait for the tank, and act like I should in a group. Sorry if I am fully decked out in Blues, BoA and Enchanted out oh and 5 levels over these elites. I mean its Uld and lowbies instances… I finally told her not to heal me and proceeded to tank the rest of the instance and solo 2 to 3 elites a pull. We got it done in record time.

Just because it’s a lower-level instance does not give someone a free pass to break all the rules. All that does is develop bad habits, set a bad example for people in the group that may not know better, and makes things harder and less fun for the rest of the group.

I’ve been healing lower-level instances on an alt recently, and that’s precisely the kind of behavior that would probably have had me dropping group.

Just because you happened to make it through the instance doesn’t mean that was the correct way to have behaved. While you got things done the way you wanted to, what about the rest of your group and their feelings? I’m sure your healer was extremely frustrated, and your tank was probably feeling like a third wheel. Additionally, by taking over the way you did, you robbed your tank of valuable tanking experience. Tanks can’t get better if they’re not given the opportunity to practice, and the lower-level instances are the best places for them to do that–the content’s a bit more forgiving.

Someone over the instance level decked out in whatnots acting stupid, so what?
What I’ve done lately when tanking on my alts ( even more instant queues) is asking them to stop whatever stupidness they’re doing, if they didn’t (druid knockbacking every single mob with typhoon “ITS MY SPELL I *HAVE* TO USE IT!” “LOL HES DRUID OFC HE KNOCK”, mage doing same are my latest pet peeves), vote kick or simple “I’m not here to take this shit from you, have fun” and leaving group will do the trick.
If its ‘a horrible group’, it’ll often get much better by removing the dpsmeter linking, 40% of dps doing, aoeing mage in a group consisting of rogues. /rantover :P

Also, Lassirra, been reading your blog randomly now and then, but I just felt like replying to my reply and saying this:

I really appreciate what you’re doing with all these guides and help to the less informed players. REALLY. Now if I only could point the ones “not in need of help, tyvm” here.. :)

LOL valuable tanking experience in lowbie dungeons lol… to funny a mage could tank Uld and down if he has heals. Second I told the healer several times feel free to drop group when she threatened not to heal.. we really didnt need her / him.

I’m sorry but I dont have time for these people to act like every pull is epic. We dont have to mark targets, we dont have to have CC assignments and traps. We dont have to have off tanks.

As far as the rest of my group and their feelings, the feelings were wow this run is quick thanks for leading cause its going by quick and we were lost a crap.

Well as for the QQing healer, she finally did drop and we got another shaman healer who LOVED the pace and who loved having to toss a random heal while he / she dps’d instead.

Some people are just in it to act all high and mighty about it and have this idea in their head that a group or instance can only be done one way. If it is working and is faster what was the harm really… maybe this healer needed to be the one to change their attitude towards the run instead of the other 4 people trying to play to fit her idea and style of what an instance run should be like.

It’s not a matter of acting like “every pull is epic”, it’s a matter of behaving properly. If you’re not supposed to tank–you shouldn’t be, if you’re not supposed to pull–you shouldn’t be, if you’re supposed to be CCing–you should be, etc.

Furthermore, where would you rather someone new to tanking learn how to do it: as they level, in low dungeons that are more forgiving (and result in significantly cheaper repair bills when mistakes are made, as they inevitably are) or would you rather that person learn how to tank at 80, where the stakes are higher, tempers much shorter and margin for error slimmer?

Based on the statements you’ve made thus far, you’re precisely the kind of Hunter I’ve encountered in a few PuGs here and there and positively and thoroughly loathed having anywhere near me. Your comments reek of self-importance and come across as extremely childish. Your cavalier attitude towards common courtesy and the feelings of others is offensive. Frankly, I can’t fathom why you’re even at this site–I have never supported or encouraged such an attitude; quite the contrary, I habitually advise against it. Additionally, your attitude offers nothing constructive to the conversation or the game experience.

While I appreciate that you simply have a different perception of how the game should be enjoyed, I have to say that I vehemently disagree with your attitude and request that if you can’t offer anything particularly constructive to the conversation to keep your comments to yourself in the future. I’d like to keep the comments section clear of the “QQ moar” attitude that’s so prevalent on the official forums.

I utterly agree. If you really feel that way, then get on your main and give lowbies a run-through. Or get a guildie to run you through. Don’t ruin the group for everyone else who wanted to get some real instance experience, or maybe even enjoy some content.

i see both sides here and must say this…
as a tank alt (hunter main) i would drop group if a dps took control like that HOWEVER

as a tank i always say, if the healz can handle it… pull faster… thats just what i do too… if you guys were going too slow and doing fine i would tell the tank….

“hey were are crusing through this really easily… could we speed up a little though im getting kind of bored lol”

anyway thats my 2 cents… love the site
