Things You Don’t Want to Hear

There’s a hilarious post over on the WoWHead forums that I noticed today: 200 Things You Don’t Want to Hear from a Hunter During a Raid. Even before I finished reading the first post in the thread, I was immediately reminded of one simple utterance I heard in a raid once that I’ll never be able to forget (no matter how much I wish I could scrub it from my mind).

It was mid-TBC and I was one of a handful of raid leaders for a co-op group of players from several guilds on our server, each guild not quite able to raid on their own but each contributing to the group so that we could all progress through content as we wanted without leaving the comfort of our own guilds. We were just starting to get serious in Gruul’s Lair, and I’d managed to throw together a very last-minute group for it in the hopes that we’d finally be able to down Gruul himself (we’d had Maulgar on farm for quite some time).

Because it was such a last-minute run, we ended up filling the last couple spots with folks we would not normally have brought with us. Not that they weren’t wonderful people, but because we were working on what was, for us, progression content, we wanted to put our best foot forward. Anyway, we had cleared the trash and found ourselves standing in front of Maulgar. One of our other raid leaders was briefing the fight over vent while I worked out Misdirection assignments with our Hunters and tanks (we had a very militaristic approach to the Maulgar pull that was probably a bit more anal than it needed to be, but it worked very well for us so we stuck with it).

Anyway, no sooner had the raid leader on vent paused for breath than I hear the voice of one of our Shaman interrupt to ask:

“What’s a flask?”

Needless to say, I was stunned speechless. Honestly, I still am, every time I remember it. That one simple question epitomizes everything that frustrated me about that guild (I loved the guild, but I also hated it with a fiery passion that would dwarf the blazing heat of the sun itself, and now you can see why).

There we were, months into a solid three night a week raiding schedule, Karazhan long since on farm and Maulgar as well, with scores of raid guides posted on our communal (and individual guild) forums for all to see–boss strategies, class guides, consumable guides, any possible piece of information any of our team could possibly need or want at their fingertips for months….

“What’s a flask?”

I /headdesk just thinking about it. I really do.

In the spirit of shared pain and misery, what things have you heard from your hapless fellow players that have made you pause and reevaluate your existence?

Is it bad that I use flask of the north exclusively because I’m too cheap and lazy to get the real deal?

Oh my god! This must be some kind of epidemic or something! I was on my mage alt this week doing an Uldaman run with the new random dungeon tool, and the tank we had (feral druid) was completely clueless. No idea how/when/what to pull, no idea how to keep aggro, the whole nine. When I died (again) because the druid couldn’t keep aggro, I asked for a rez. (The healer, also a druid, had died as well.)

The rogue in the group then said “How can he rez? He’s a tank.” I just sort of sat there and stared at the screen for a while, then pointed out that, regardless of spec, Druids happen to have not one, but two, rez spells.

I guess the good news was that at least it wasn’t the Druid himself that was confused? /facepalm
