You’re in the last levels before heading to Outland and your options for upgrades are ever-increasing as you go. These levels will afford you a lot of opportunities to visit the last instances of “vanilla” WoW along with access to a lot of interesting quest chains with nice rewards. The thing to keep in mind at this point is that the jump in gear from “vanilla” to Outland is huge. When The Burning Crusade was first released, players found themselves quickly replacing even introductory raid gear with quest greens within a few short minutes of reaching Hellfire Peninsula. What that means for you is that remembering not to spend too much time farming for a specific piece of gear is even more true now, as a quick and easy upgrade is just around the corner.
Despite the fact that this section of the guide does encompass a couple levels of Outland content, I’m going to restrict it to purely “vanilla” content to prevent overlap and the need to switch back and forth between this section and the next. So, even though Outland content is available at 58, I won’t be covering it until the next part in the series. That said, let’s take a look at some loot!
Armor
Before I get into individual pieces, I would like to point out that these levels will give you access to the first Hunter dungeon armor set (and actually the second one as well, though I probably wouldn’t recommend going for it unless you just really want to have it for your own personal reasons): The Beaststalker Set. I’ve mentioned the Beaststalker Set in previous posts, mostly because I have very fond memories of it. (My memories of farming instances for it are not so fond, however.) Some of the pieces are extremely easy to get–you can pick them up right from the Auction House, while others require a bit of work on your part. However, before you reach Outland content, the Beaststalker set is some of the best gear you can get, so definitely think about picking up at least a few pieces of it.
- Beaststalker’s Belt
- Beaststalker’s Boots
- Beaststalker’s Bindings
- Beaststalker’s Cap
- Beaststalker’s Tunic
- Beaststalker’s Pants
- Beaststalker’s Mantle
- Beaststalker’s Gloves
There’s another armor set available at these levels that isn’t class-specific, and the pieces can all be found in Blackrock Depths. The itemization on this set is a little odd, in that one of the set bonuses increases Defense rating, which is extremely odd for a Mail set of armor at this level (when tanks can either wear plate or leather). That aside, the set is actually quite decent for Hunters, so if you find yourself spending some time in Blackrock Depths, be sure to keep an eye out for these:
- Savage Gladiator Helm – Hedrum the Creeper
- Savage Gladiator Chain – Gorosh the Dervish
- Savage Gladiator Leggings – Ok’thor the Breaker
- Savage Gladiator Greaves – Anub’shiah
- Savage Gladiator Grips – Eviscerator
A crafted Dragonscale Leatherworking set that is available to you now is the Black Dragon Mail set:
- Black Dragonscale Boots
- Black Dragonscale Breastplate
- Black Dragonscale Leggings
- Black Dragonscale Shoulders
All four of these items are bind-on-equip, so if you can’t craft them yourself, you should be able to pick them up from the Auction House. One thing I would note is that crafters who learned Leatherworking after the release of The Burning Crusade probably don’t have the recipe to make the boots–it was a reputation reward from the Thorium Brotherhood at exalted, and even during “vanilla” it was often difficult to find someone who could craft them. Also, the four-piece set bonus is just Fire Resist (which was handy to have in “vanilla” when you were looking to start Molten Core, but not necessary now), so don’t worry about getting the last piece.
And the last armor set is one crafted by Blacksmiths, the Bloodsoul Embrace:
While the three-piece bonus of 15mp5 isn’t particularly impressive, the pieces are still nice in their own right.
