I’ll be getting back to our Hunter Gear for Leveling series shortly, but today I wanted to take some time to discuss a few pieces of “site news”.
Site Down-Time
First and foremost, I wanted to talk about the down-time the site has been experiencing recently. I know many of you have emailed us or contacted us via Twitter and Facebook regarding this issue, so it’s worth mentioning publicly at this point.
Yes, we are well aware that there has been an ongoing issue lately with site down-time. This is the result of a problem the site has been experiencing to a lesser extent for the past several months, and while we’re aware of the basic problem and what’s causing it, we’re unsure how to fix the problem at the moment.
We’re currently taking steps to try to reduce the problem and we’re monitoring site performance in an attempt to pinpoint a more long-term solution. In addition to the problem itself, because of THM’s unique hosting situation, we do not have 24/7 technical support available to us. This means that, even when we’re aware that the site isn’t loading, we can’t always fix the issue immediately. We’re in the process of working with our tech to find a solution so that we’ll be able to get the site back up ourselves in the future, to help reduce down-time, but that will only be a band-aid fix and isn’t ready for use yet.
We are actively trying to fix the problem, and we appreciate your patience while we deal with the issue. You can follow us on Twitter for updates regarding the issue or for discussion when the site is down.
THM Newsletter
We’re currently in the process of developing an email newsletter that will be sent on a monthly basis.
Each issue of the newsletter will feature a wide variety of content not found here on The Hunter’s Mark site, and will be available for a small fee: $12 per year (that’s $1 per month).
We’re not sure yet when the first issue of the newsletter will become available, but it will be within the next week or two. Topics covered within the newsletter will include:
- Hunter class and community news
- Featured “Tip of the Month” and “Screenshot of the Month”
- Highlights from the site and forums
- THM Mailbag
- Lore features
- Hunter fiction periodicals
- Exclusive video and podcast content
And any additional content we think would be of interest to our readers. We’ll be making an announcement here on the site when the first issue of the newsletter becomes available.
Premium Themes
This is not related to THM specifically, but was something I wanted to make all of you aware of so that you can help spread the word.
I’ve decided to try giving the development and sale of premium WordPress themes a try. Primarily, I’ll be marketing custom themes to the WoW community, so if you know of any bloggers (or guilds, if they use WordPress) that would be interested in commissioning a custom WoW WordPress theme, please send them my way. (The most reliable way to contact me is via email.)
To give you a small preview of the types of themes I’ll be developing, here’s a first draft of a quick mock-up of a potential theme I may decide to develop that I did this morning:
Additionally, I’ve personally designed all the themes that THM has used for the past two and a half years, so long term visitors will already have a feel for my work (and I can provide screenshots of past layouts used here on THM upon request).
