Hunter Island: Submission Three

hunterisland2I know, I missed posting this yesterday. Oops! But, I figure, that gives folks extra time to get their submissions in, so no harm done, right? For those interested in participating, you can check out the details here.

Our third submission is from Mintaka. Remember, keep comments related to the submission itself, as I’ll be posting a wrap-up later on to start the voting process.

My hunter was the fourth character I rolled and I really did it on a whim. My third character was a Tauren druid I was not having any fun playing but one day in the barrens I followed a troll hunter around as we were on the same quests and watched at how easily he was killing mobs and decided I’d give it a try. I already had a level 70 Troll warrior and Undead warlock so I figured an Orc would make a good racial choice.

I fell in love with Mintaka almost immediately. We easily levelled and I found myself constantly completing orange or red quests alone. Once I hit 70 I decided I wanted some epics and started to pvp in battlegrounds with him until I was pretty much epiced out. I thought I was badass until one day the guild I was in, but didn’t participate with, asked if I’d sub in for a dps that had left a Kara run. This was an eye opener. I learned many new things that night, including threat meters (not that I needed to worry), damage meters (again, no worries there) , hit points and ventrilo. Although I’d sometimes chatted online a limited amount and used to quest often with a friend I met in game, this was different. Here were 10 individuals willing to help me become a better player and interacted socially. My gaming changed.

Now I’m one of the core raiders in our guild. I try to help others get gear and play their hunters better. I’m always looking as new ways to become a better player and I read a ton of blogs and web sites looking for information to attain better stats. But more importantly, I have fun, I have online friends I enjoy playing with and a guild that I participate in that maintains a friendly and respectful attitude while progressing. None of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t rolled a hunter and even though I have 3 level 70’s waiting to be played, it’s Mintaka I go to first. I’d rather spend a night grinding mats or reputation with him than level another toon right now.

Last night I was in a 25-man Naxx. run and topped the damage meters for the first time. My average dps was 3843.5 (yes, I’m proud of that) and even though my BM build is going to be nerfed in the next patch I’m still going to enjoy playing him and hopefully help other hunters do the same with their toons. Even though I do watch the meters more now, it’s not the most important thing.

It’s interesting, and its helpful for new hunters wondering what rolling a hunter might be like. I like it.
