5 Trinkets You Shouldn’t Be Without

This article contains outdated information.

Trinkets are universally the most under appreciated and under utilized pieces of gear in the game. Usually, your trinkets are the pieces of gear you replace last. They’re harder to come by than items of any other slot, and they have the least impact on your character’s base stats. Why bother with them in the first place? Because they provide much-needed situational benefits that you just can’t get anywhere else.

Fetish of the Fallen

Exarch Maladaar (Auchenai Crypts)

What makes this trinket so great is the reduction of downtime while soloing. Hunters are notoriously known as a “soloing” or “farming” class, and this trinket helps us to truly shine in that regard. It’s a great trinket for Hunters still making their way to 70 as it provides a decent Attack Power buff, particularly relative to other trinkets available at this level of progression. Paired with Bladefist’s Breadth, this trinket is a definite must-have for any Hunter in the mid-60s.

Pros: Great for reducing downtime while soloing or grinding/farming. Better than most other trinkets available at that level.

Cons: Doesn’t have a “Use” ability that boosts any stats relevant to a Hunter (specifically), such as Attack Power. (Paired with a trinket that does have such a “Use” ability, this isn’t so bad.)

Hourglass of the Unraveller

Temporus (Black Morass)

Many feel this trinket should be epic, that’s how useful it is. In many cases, this trinket’s longevity surpasses any other trinket in the game for Hunters. For Survival Hunters in particular, this is the best trinket of this type (that improves Crit Rating and provides a passive Attack Power buff) until the latter part of Serpentshrine Cavern. Paired with an “On Use” Attack Power trinket, the Hourglass can become a force to be reckoned with.

Pros: Very easy to obtain (with diligent farming). Unlikely to be replaced for a long time.

Cons: Can’t control when the Rage of the Unraveller buff is applied to give an additional boost in certain situations where such is necessary.

Skyguard Silver Cross

Sha’tari Skyguard (Exalted)

This trinket is much like the Hourglass. It may have provided a “step up” from the Hourglass (until you’re able to get the Talisman), except that the Attack Power buff provided by this trinket is much lower than that of the Hourglass. This trinket provides a passable substitute for the Hourglass if you’re unable to find groups for Black Morass, or just appear to have poor luck with drop rates.

Pros: Relatively easy to get on your own. Procs frequently.

Cons: Much lower Attack Power buff than other trinkets of this type.

Bloodlust Brooch

41 Badges of Justice

This trinket quickly became a staple in the the physical DPS community, and Hunters are no exception. Because of the nature of this trinket, it’s great to pair with trinkets that supply varied stat bonuses and passive buffs.

Pros: Use effect provides a good DPS boost for situations where such is required. Equip effect also provides a nice AP bonus for this progression range.

Cons: Must be running heroics and/or raids to be able to purchase it from the vendor.

Tsunami Talisman

Leotheras the Blind (Serpentshrine Cavern)

If you can get your hands on it, this trinket provides a great upgrade to the Hourglass or the Silver Cross. This trinket is particularly sought after by Survival Hunters to help increase the uptime of their Expose Weakness buff.

Pros: Arguably the best trinket of this type currently available.

Cons: Difficult to obtain: must be able to clear the majority of Serpentshrine Cavern.

Remember: Pop your “Use” trinkets early and often! Every proc you miss is DPS lost!

@Pike: For whatever reason (TBC was new and I leveled quick: that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it) I don’t think I ever got Bladefist’s Breadth on my hunter. Got it on my rogue though! Lol

Great list! Another one worth considering is the Power Infused Mushroom. Not quite as beefy as the Fetish of the Fallen, but 200 mana per kill could definitely help with our downtime when farming. :)

@Drotara: Oh, good call! (But then the list wouldn’t be a nice, round, visually-pleasing number like 5 anymore…) :(

Mmmm Madness of the Betrayer looks tasty, I hope I get a chance at it before Wrath. Another trinket for the list could be Berserker’s Call which I just picked up from Zul’jin this weekend past and is finally replacing my Romulo’s Poison Thingy. Another rare level one – Abacus of Violent Odds. I sadly never got the Abacus or Hourglass for Jez :(

No Dragonspine Trophy? I thought that was pretty hot for Hunters (although you do have to fight through legions of Rogues to get it).

Dragonspine indeed. (Not to brag… well, ok, to brag – got it on my 1st ever Gruul kill! Woot)

And I thought Skyguard Silver Cross only procs when you get the killing blow in. This means that, in raids, it’s unlikely to proc at all. Don’t know what happens solo if the pet lands the killing blow.

for solo I’de also like to add:
    [item=28108]Power Infused Mushroom[/item]
    [item=27920]Mark of Conquest[/item]
When using these 2 along with AotV you can go killing without ever going oom.

How can you have the Tsunami trinket listed and not the DST? Tsunami is one of the must have trinkets, but it drops off Leo in SSC and if a guild can’t even farm Gruul they certianlhy will not be killing Leo anytime soon. DST is by far one of the BEST trinkets for any physical DPS class.
