Screenies from the Beta

Having downloaded and installed the various patches, and gotten a few minor kinks worked out, I logged into the Beta for the first time this morning. I’ll admit right up front: the first thing I did was roll a Death Knight. I was curious, so sue me. :P I leveled my DK to 58 (the process was very quick, I might add, and the starter gear looked really cool), got her to Honor Hold, then logged over to my 70s to get their talents in order. After about 20 quests, give or take a dozen, Lass is about 25% of the way to 71.

I’ll be headed back into the Beta a little later this afternoon, but I wanted to share some of the screenshots I took this morning while in there.

The new calendar interface, which may be used to schedule raids and other in-game events:

My shiny new Death Knight, at level 58:

The new Achievements interface:

The new Glyphs interface:

Lass after a “Shave and a Haircut” (it ended up really bothering me that her hair wasn’t white anymore for some reason):

Lass at the new Stormwind Harbor, preparing to catch a boat to the Borean Tundra (which I’ve recently dubbed “Le Boring Tundra”, heh):

Taking a peek around after arriving in the Borean Tundra:

Doing some of the introductory quests along the Riplash shore:

Running through Dragonblight, after I got bored in Borean:

Ph34r teh DKs!

Arthas and I are like… best buddies, don’t ya know?

Okay, so the whole experience might’ve been a little overwhelming:

So far, I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed my DK a lot more than I thought I would. Their spell and ability graphic effects are really cool looking, and the starter quests are pretty easy, but still fun. Just wait till you see the scripted part at the end! ;) (And no, I won’t spoil it.)

@Heal – I was decidedly uneasy about the whole thing, and wished I hadn’t done it, lol.

    @Loronar – Word! :P

Y’know, of everything that you’ve listed there I’m ashamed to admit that I’m most excited about the introduction of an in-game calendar that doesn’t rely on any sort of add on or mod. That’s just wonderful!

@Cynra – Yeah, actually, I would agree to an extent. It’s been an extremely understated change, but I think it’s one that will be extremely useful. For one, raid leaders and officers won’t have to herd cats anymore, getting people to download specific mods and keep them updated. They’ll be able to use functionality built right into the game. I think that’s a major step in the right direction.

In the last patch before Friday the devs increased the XP for leveling per level 80% which makes it take much much longer to level.

Think I’m about 85% or so to 71 on my Paladin.

Like the screenshots as well, guess one my favorite thing to do is snap pictures. First thing u did in Beta as well was to roll a DK as a placeholder toon. Just did one quest to check him out fir like 10 mins then went to play my main. Haven’t played around much with him since, but he does feel very Epic.

I have a Hunter alt copied over as well to just play with. I have my 70 Owl, Raven, Ravager in the stables. Picked up a 65 croc and a 70 Tundra Crawler (worm) in the Boring Tundra as you say. Just fun times on the hunter since I spend my time mostly on my Tanking Paladin main in Beta.

Number on Hunter pet seen so far is everyone seem to have a Devilsaur for pet flavor.

It felt like it was taking a really long time… :???: Lass is still only about 50% through 70.

I haven’t bothered to get a new pet yet. I’ve been too busy running around Howling Fjord, lol. I got the “Explore the Howling Fjord” achievement already. :D

Why do people gush about AoC’s graphics?

I’m not currently playing WoW, but these shots crush Age of Conan. They need better artists. Good visuals is not just a matter of # of polygons.

@Muckbeast – It was an interesting read, to be sure, but seemed more like a gross over-generalization. Certainly there are those that place too much personal importance on the game, but those appear to be mostly in the minority, even among the raiding community at large.

Stories of obsessed raiders neglecting other aspects of their lives to pursue game events are getting rather blase. We’ve all heard the horror stories, and most have responded with a general “Oh, how sad.” and taken it as a gentle reminder to be that much more judicious about caring for other, “healthier” aspects of their lives.

The article paints its picture with a very broad brush that doesn’t appear to take into account the myriad of raiders that do so casually, many of whom bow out for several nights a week saying things like “I need to spend time with my kids”, or “My wife and I are going out”. These people are by no means the minority in my experience, and while, yes, they feel a very distinct sense of accomplishment in downing new bosses, the accomplishment is deserved, and well balanced with other facets of their lives.

    In all… /yawn
