Dear Mr Account-Hacker,
While I admire your ingenuity, I do not appreciate being locked out of my account, however temporarily, that I have spent my hard-earned money to play. I also do not appreciate the stripping of a character that I have spent the better part of three years working very hard to develop. I do not appreciate the theft of hundreds of gold, across several characters, that I spent hours farming and questing for. I do not appreciate the theft of dozens of primals that I had been saving up for crafting, transmutes, and auction house sales.
There’s nothing that can make a person feel better than logging on to discover you sold off their Legacy and their Sunfury, that they spent months farming Karazhan for. Words cannot describe how I felt when I discovered you’d vendored my Blood Knight War Cloak, and replaced it with the Sergeant’s Cape I had sitting in the bank. It’s really awesome of you to have also vendored my Worgen Claw Necklace, Stalker’s War Bands, Girdle of the Prowler, Fiend Slayer Boots, Garona’s Signet Ring, and Hourglass of the Unraveller. And that’s not to mention all the back-up gear I had sitting in the bank that you saw fit to vendor, like my Shifting Camouflage Pants, Scaled Breastplate of Carnage and Maulgar’s Warhelm, just to name a few.
It touched my heart to discover that the illustrious 759 Agility (unbuffed) that I had worked so hard to get to has been reduced to a paltry 386 Agility in mere moments.
But, Mr Account-Hacker, you know better than anyone the crimes you have committed, and I need not enumerate them for you. You know better than anyone that the events described above are only a brief summary of what you were up to today, on my account alone, and you know better than anyone how many lives you have touched.
I have to wonder, then, Mr Account-Hacker… how much are months of my sweat, tears, frustrations and triumphs worth? How much gold did my vendored epics net you? How much money can you sell that gold for? How inconvenienced are you by the disciplinary actions Blizzard has taken against you? My guess is not nearly as much as I would like, or even feel comfortable with. I imagine you’ll likely wake up tomorrow to repeat the process, leaving another player, another person, staring blankly at their character screen wondering what the fuck happened, and where they went wrong. But, Mr Account-Hacker, you care very little for the people behind the characters you steal from. You care very little about the fact that, for all you know, you could have stolen hard-earned items from a 12-year-old boy in Kansas who plays World of Warcraft to be with friends, and feel like a valuable part of a team, or a 60-year-old woman in North Dakota who plays World of Warcraft in order to spend time with her kids and grandkids doing something they all enjoy. You don’t care about any of that, do you? Does it even cross your mind that you’re not just stealing from characters, pixels on a screen, but real people who have feelings and have invested their time and love into these characters you hijack?
No. You don’t think about that.
You think about how much profit can be gained by stealing from one and selling to another. You are shit, and I spit on you. There is no honor in what you do. You are shame. No matter what justifications you may have for doing what you do pale in comparison to the results of your actions and the impact your actions have on thinking, feeling individuals all over the world.
DIAF.
Love,
Lassirra

That sucks on soooo many levels. One of our guild warlocks got hacked a while ago.. make sure you don’t make the same mistake he did, and completely clean your computer before logging on again, once Blizzard fixes what happened (as best as they can, and I hear there are things they just can’t replace).. he didn’t, and got hacked AGAIN the very next day. We were lucky that the hacker didn’t decide to take on the guild bank too.
I am so so sorry

A good friend of mine just went through this as well. Here’s hoping they’ll restore everything for you as quickly as they did for her.

So Sorry Lassirra – words don’t even describe how bad that stinks. I hope that there is some way you can get back what you have worked so hard to achieve.
Again so sorry.

I’m so sorry to hear that. =( How people can stoop so low, I’ve no idea.

I’m sorry for you, mate. :’(
My best wishes with Blizzard’s gear recovery system.

Lassirra, I am so very sorry to read this! I sincerely hope this horrible event is rectified as soon as possible and your characters will be restored to completely before the attack.

You wrote something that will hopefully hit home with a couple of thieves (although I do hope that such scum ridden individuals do not read your blog!). Best of luck getting everything restored, I hope Blizz come through for you.

Oh god that totally sucks
I really hope blizz get you back all your gear. Bloody bastards that do that eh?
((hugs))

Lassirra,
I’m so sorry to hear the horrible news about your account. I hope Blizz is able to help you out. I can only imagine how frustrating this is.
We all hear about people’s accounts getting hacked every day. It sucks because good and honest players don’t deserve it. I hope Blizz can create SOMETHING to prevent more innocent people from getting their accounts ripped off.

DIAF? Is that really enough? How about DSIAFOMD — Die Slowly In A Fire Over Many Days. And to the gold-buyers who make this kind of thing lucrative.
I remember once, long ago, you mentioned (at least, I think you did…) that you ran WoW on WINE/Linux — so this doubly sucks. I always thought that everyone smart enough to use a flavor of Unix was immune to these things.

Damn damn damn damn. I truly don’t know what else to say. I was fortunate in that I went to a site yesterday that insisted I update Flash due to a keylogging threat in the version I had, or I’d be posting something very similar, no doubt.
This sucks; as everyone’s said, I hope your gear is restored in the shortest time possible.

I’m SO sorry to hear about this. You must feel pretty crap right now, I know I would. I hope, as do many of your friends and supporters that Bliz will fully restore you account, and do it soon. Let us know if theres anything else we can do to help.
Take care.

Really sorry for you. Stay in there and don’t get discouraged from continuing wow.

Update : Apparently Bliz is aware of the hacking issue and there’s a blue post about it (see wowinsider). I hope this means your chances of getting your account fixed has significantly gotten better. Good luck!

First Mirshalak, and now you. This is one of those things that kind of hits closer to home when you know people who’ve been hacked. =/
I hope everything works out in the end.

When I heard what happen to you I was in shock. I could not go to your site until yesterday. I’ve had two of my friends/guild mates get hacked in the past few months. My wife Breana from Gun loving Dwarf chick, she called me on Wednesday May 28 around 3pm. Next to my wife’s site I only read yours and BRK. I can’t begin to understand what you are or were feeling at the time.
All I can give you is the frustration that I want though the day that the first of my family got hacked. There was about 7 to 10 of us sending tickets to the GM to freeze his account. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do to stop the fucker from vending all his gear. The guild got hit as well because he is an officer and had rights to the guild bank. From that day, I live in fear for my friends and worry if their hard work will be stolen once again. These characters become us at some point in time; this is from all of the hours of reading on how to play our class better and playing with our friends. A lot of my guild mates have become a second family. Even closer than our family because they can truly understand the love we feel for them. I hope for one thing (please let this happen) that all of the hackers that hack a WOW account understand our pain. By them getting their cars stolen, home robbed and their prized possession get taken away. I feel that an eye for an eye is just. Maybe this wrong could make it right, only because they would finally feel our pain and understand the evil they are truly doing. Let’s hope for true justices.
