Filling in the Gaps

The last few days, I’ve been spending time trying to fill in the gaps in my gear that Naxx, OS and Malygos have not seen fit to upgrade. I’ve also been working on finally getting all my enchants up to speed, which has not been easy. Why? Because I’m always broke as a joke. I hate daily quests, with a few exceptions (I love the puppy collection quest for the Kalu’ak, for example), and rarely farm. My primary sources of income are the half dozen daily quests I will actually do, the few herbs I manage to pick up along the way, and the occasional sale of a Dragon’s Eye. That wouldn’t be so bad, except that my expenditures often match my income between raid repair bills, the cost of consumables I can’t make myself (flasks, elixirs, etc), and other miscellany which I will describe below, and so I tend to simply break even and sit at about 100g in my pockets at any given time.

Where’d My Money Go?!

So, the first big thing I’ve purchased in a long, long time (which I was actually surprised I had the money for in the first place–a bunch of my auctions happened to sell just when I needed them to) was a pair of Giantmaim Legguards to replace the crappy blue quest reward pants I was wearing. They set me back 550g, but I figure the expense was worth it. Then I purchased some Nerubian Leg Armor to spiff them up even more. I had previously refused to purchase a leg “enchant” because the pants I was wearing were crap, and I need to conserve cash where I can, ya know? But, with shiny purple pants equipped, it was time to shell out some gold. I’m absolutely positive now, of course, that I’ll soon end up with my T7 legs because I actually spent a fair chunk of gold for a change.

I’ve also been keeping an eye on auctions for the Ice Striker’s Cloak to replace the junky cloak I’m wearing now, but the typical buy-out price seems to hover around 770g, which is a bit out of my price range at the moment. (Yes, yes, I know. I’m sad. Be quiet, you!) So instead, I set about collecting Relics of Ulduar to finally get my Sons of Hodir rep up enough to get better shoulder enchants. As I’ve mentioned, I loathe daily quests, and positively refused to do the Sons of Hodir quests. I just flat-out refused. So, knowing that token turn-ins would be available with 3.0.8, I waited. I farmed all 190 tokens I needed this weekend, and got my enchant last night.

You’d think all that farming would’ve generated a tidy profit, but you’d be wrong. The shoulder enchant cost me precisely the amount I was able to acquire through farming the relics, so I ended up breaking even there.

Then, of course, I needed to stock up on arrow makers because I was running short. At 50g a pop, it was a tad painful. Then, of course, I also had to pick up a flask for the next raid. Buh bye, monies. :(

Where I Draw the Line

I haven’t gotten my weapons enchanted yet, and don’t plan to. At least not the ones I have at the moment. I’m currently sporting “rogue weapons“, and I refuse to believe that these will be my weapons heading into Ulduar, and because potency is friggin expensive on the auction house, I refuse to waste the money to enchant something I don’t intend to use for much longer.

Sure, maybe that’s stubborn and impractical, but I’m stubborn and poor, so that’s how it’s gonna go down. My next “big ticket” item is the cloak, so potency is just gonna have to wait it’s turn.

What’s Left?

The last three things I’ve left to replace are one of my rings, and my trinkets. I’ll be working on getting the Mirror of Truth and Ring of Invincibility from emblem rewards. For my other trinket, I’m holding out for Fury of the Five Flights. I wants it, precious, I wants it. Oh yes.

Good (or is that sad?) to hear that another player out there is not Uber Epicc’d out and rich beyond my wildest dreams. I currently have around 3000 gold, which has slooowly been accumulating (I’m not max level yet) so that I can buy regular flying from Outlands, and the cold weather flying for Northrend. I still boggle when I see 4 digits in my gold totals, and must fight the urge to go spent it on fancy enchants or gems that I do expect to keep a while! :D

Eh, I could be “epic’d out”, my guild’s had all the 25man content on farm for a long time. I just don’t really care that much, so I’ve passed on quite a lot of items. My reasoning is I’ll get the stuff I want eventually, why not have the folks that care more get it first? I can wait.

I’m trying to spend as little as possible myself. Fortunately with Inscription and Tailoring, I don’t have to worry about leg and shoulder enchants. Screw the Sons of Hodir grind!

Still, I’m always left hovering around 1k gold :(
I’m too lazy to make and sell Glyphs on the AH. Maybe I should whip out the guitar case and play for copper in Dalaran.

    Buttercup!

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist! Don’t hurt me.

LOL, that was actually meant for your rant ;)
