hunterisland2Predictably, we continue today with another Hunter Island submission, this time from Railor. With the round one submission deadline fast approaching, we’ll have only a few more submissions to read before the real fun begins in earnest. If you’re still working on your submission, fear not, you’ve still got a couple days to send it in! Now, on with the show!

Back in the day when it was only Azeroth, it was a widely percieved view that the hunter was the easiest class to play. Oh and the recent success of a certain Mr Bloom in LotR made NE Hunters very popular, ( I wonder who managed to secure the name Legolas?).

So there were a lot of hunters, I myself rolled one as my first char, but not for any of the above reasons.  At the time I was a soldier, sniper trained, and thought that hunter was more ‘Me’.  Solo character with an enormous gun? Yep that’ll do for me.

It still is an easy character to play, but so is a warrior in my mind; all you do is stand in front and hit stuff.  Mages are hard, cos they die alot, and priests always get the blame for any wipe cos they didn’t heal enough.  I know, argue the points raised if you will, I’m keeping it simple.

But a hunter, like any character, is hard to play well.  And there’s the difference.  A well played hunter is crowd control, Off tank, kite, healer guard, huge dps and doesn’t die often if you’re quick enough on the feint death button :)  It can bring alot of toys to the party that many other characters do not.

I have been MM since the game started and thought of no reason to change.  The exotic pets offer no really good reason to go BM, and that glowing thing is a pain for the tank by the way.  I am willing to plead ignorance on the survival spec as I haven’t tried it.  Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems geared towards PvP and raiding.  Anyway, its MM I prefer, mainly because of the firepower it develops, Trueshot aura and silent shot.  But like everyone else it is down to play style and possibly laziness.  I’m MM because I have always been, it’s what I like and yes I’m too lazy to go check out the other styles to any great extent.
With the exception of a brief foray into BM when Wotlk came out and we got a free respec.  But I lost silent shot which makes soloing hard work against casters and I didn’t want a glowing fancy pet.

On the subject of pets I’m still waiting for Blizz to give pets the aggro they should have.  Even the ‘tank’ pets drop aggro like a hot rock and that’s with taunt on.  If its a ‘tank’ then at least let it tank, otherwise its just a pet with no dps and not as much use to the hunter as a ‘dps’ pet.

Anyway, I rolled a hunter, since then have rolled a few others, but its hunter I love. I have faced the slagging down, and the other comments, and my answer is to just crack on and play.  Play well and let the gun do the talking.  Generally the folk that slag hunters off, in my humble opinion, are garbage at their own character and their opinion is worthless anyway.
