Much to my surprise and delight, I’ve already received a few submissions for my apprentice blogging contest, Hunter Island. Remember, I haven’t closed first round submissions yet, so you still have plenty of time to submit your articles for consideration. If you’re interested in doing so, check here for details.
My first submission is from Michael, who chose to write about why he rolled a Hunter. For now, keep your comments related to the subject of the submission itself; once the first round of submissions is over, I’ll post a “highlight” article at the end so that we can begin the voting process.

Without further ado, I present, Michael’s submission!
I rolled a night elf hunter because I rocked out with night elves in Warcraft3 and the playstyle of having a pet suits me (I am forced to go just far enough into UH on my DK for the perma-pet or I cannot play him).
I began playing during patch 1.6 and so my first patch was one that completely changed how hunters play. So I was/am prepared for the 2.1, 3.0, and 3.0.8 patches. Hunters have always seemed like the hardest class for the devs to work with because it is technically 2 toons that need independant balancing.
My hunter is still my main because of how the class plays in PvE. I know there are serious PvP issues but I burnt my self out on PvP getting Rank 4 LoL. I have never used a “cookie cutter” spec and have often espoused concepts in gear and talents that are different. My focus in raids is for me and my pet to live. After that I worry about DPS. I never look at damage done. I remember being told by raid leaders in ZG and MC to dismiss pet or get kicked so to see pets being allowed to come at all and even OMG off-tank! Makes me smile.
It is the variation possible that I love about being a hunter. Now with the different tree/family combinations it gets really fun for me. BM w/exotic ferocity or SV w/tenacity? Duel specs will spice things up even more.
My hunter hopes for the future involve better pet bar support. Continued improvements on the movement AI for fights like Keristraza and Sarth. Also, I would like to have non-engineer made arrows, bah.

Yea, it might be interesting to vary up the post topics sometimes during the contest, instead of it just having to involve the hunter class.
I feel your pain, Lass…kinda sorta. While Beast Master was my first love, I made the conscious decision to focus on my priest when Wrath came out. And I think it’s GREAT that there are at least two extremely viable Priest specs available now (not so sure about Shadow anymore, given the mightiness of Retadins and BM hunters).
But much as I love my Beast Mastery, it irks me a lot that the other two specs are relegated to “Yeah, you can level up fine with that, but stay outta my raid tyvm” status.
As it turns out, the hunter nerfs planned for 3.0.8 may have been world-class nukes. I’m glad I’ll be more of an interested bystander than an unwilling victim.
Back to the point, I think adding a couple more bloggers to the site is a terrific idea: Still all the great THM goodness I’ve always loved, and more hunter blogginess, but all under one roof. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how this pans out!
Much <3 always!
*sigh* Meant to leave the previous comment on the preceding post. Teh internet pwns me.
This submission leaves a good deal to be desired. One thing that immediately jumps out at me: Using “LoL” and “OMG” in the middle of a professional blog post (or an application for one) is…not so awesome. Remember those rules your English teachers taught, folks. Also, complete sentences are FTW. Nothing grates on your more grammar-conscious OCD readers than fragments (of which there are several).
Also, about half the post has no particular relation to the stipulated subject. That isn’t to say the patches you went through or how much or little you look at a damage meter isn’t interesting; it does mean it’s off topic.
So, there are some things to consider when writing your next submission.

[...] This round, Gwolf was assigned a guide article to Heroic Violet Hold. He gave us a quick run-through of the possible bosses that could spawn and how to deal with them, as well as a look at some of the loot we may have to look forward to from this instance. Gwolf’s first article, from round one, can be found here. [...]
