I Wish WoWHead Would Do This

Since making the leap into T6 content and getting a few tasty new drops, I’ve been working on revising my wish list. As such, I’ve been poking around AtlasLoot, WoWHead, and WoWDB looking for goodies. The nice thing about AltasLoot is that it now provides a wishlist that you can reference in-game. You browse through various loot tables, Alt-Click on an item you like, and it’s automatically added to your wishlist for easy reference later. WoWDB also has the ability to save wishlists for you (provided you’re logged in).

Several months ago, I sent an email to WoWHead suggesting that they integrate wishlist functionality. (Incidentally, that was actually before I had found WoWDB, and didn’t know at the time that there was already a site with such functionality.) Particularly with their new “weight scale” feature, a wishlist feature would be really great to have. In fact, the wishlist functionality is really the only thing that keeps me going back to WoWDB now that WoWHead has weight scales to play with.

On the other hand, its just as easy to keep using WoWDB for my wishlists. Its actually a very nice site (easy on the eyes, too). One thing I would suggest, though, is they add a couple more features to their wishlists:

Make Them Sortable By Slot

One thing I really wished I was able to do while browsing through my wishlist the other day was to sort the items on the list by slot. This would make it much easier to see a few different things:

  • How many items I have on my list for the same slot
  • Comparison of same-slot items

It would be nice to be able to click one button and be able to definitively say, “Oh. I have five different pairs of boots on my list, three different breastplates, and two different pairs of gloves.” for example, and then be able to see like items side-by-side to do a quick comparison (perhaps I could eliminate one from my list that way).

Display Drop Zones

More often than not, I know exactly where the items on my wishlist come from. However, it would make things much easier if there were a column in the display that told me, so I don’t have to sit there with a glazed look in my eyes for a couple seconds while the mental database kicks on.

Also, in tandem with functionality that sorts items by slot, I would also be able to see things like this, for example:

I have three pairs of boots on my list. One comes from ZA, one from SSC, and one from MH. Are the boots from SSC or MH better than the ones from ZA? If so, I can probably cross the ZA boots off my list. In so doing, I’m left with 0 items on my list from ZA, and can thus stop putting priority on signing up for ZA runs.

Being able to see drop zones, and being able to sort by slot, not only helps me keep my wishlist cleared out of unnecessary items, but also helps me manage my time in-game better by giving me a clearer picture of which runs I should be prioritizing and which runs I can skip (unless I’m needed).

Blog Integration

I would also really like it if I could somehow integrate my WoWDB wishlist into my blog somehow. Yes, I have a separate Wishlist page. However, I maintain the page manually (and often forget to update it–which I have lately, and will do later today, heh). I know there are other sites out there that would allow me to do that, but I would like to use sites for this that I visit almost daily (which is true for WoWHead).

Speaking of blog integration, it’d also be awesome if WoWHead or WoWDB would release a more current WP Plugin for displaying item links. The current one doesn’t mesh well with WP 2.6 (it destroys the convenient “Add media” links, for example, among other things).

What features would you like to see WoWHead or WoWDB add? How do you save your wishlists?

I recently discovered that handy wishlist feature in Atlas Loot, saves me always clicking around looking for stuff (because I never remember the name of ANYTHING!)

Right now I’ve got a spreadsheet where I keep my list of gear I’m looking to get, but it’s not often updated… too much hassle! We also maintain a list on our guild forums so we can focus on which raids people need more stuff from.

Adding this feature to WoWhead would be great! I’ve never actually tried WoWDB’s feature, but I think I might do that now. It would be super cool to have an up-to-date list I could keep on my blog, or at least link to!
