This article contains outdated information.
As a follow up to Jezrael’s post which provided fellow hunters with a checklist for raid consumables, I thought it would be worth talking about just how useful your Cooking skill can really be. By now, we all know that [item]Warp Burger[/item]s, [item]Grilled Mudfish[/item] and [item]Ravager Dog[/item]s are the cat’s meow. And who doesn’t love pampering their pet with some [item]33874[/item] or [item]Sporeling Snack[/item]s? But what else is cooking good for? And why should you bother leveling it?
What Can You Learn?
There are a ton of easily-learned cooking recipes, almost all of which can be purchased for a reasonable price from vendors around Outland. (In other words: don’t buy them on the Auction House!) While there are certainly some less impressive recipes out there that will only teach you how to make food that will simply regenerate your health when you stop for a snack, there are tons of recipes out there which will provide you and your friends with more tangible and lasting benefits: the Well Fed buff. Let’s take a look at some foods you can make that provide a Well Fed buff.

Resistances

Broiled Bloodfin
Well Fed Bonus: +8 to all Resistances
Training: [item]33869[/item]. This is one of a few random world drop cooking recipes. Because its usefulness is limited, I would suggest only purchasing it off the Auction House if its cheap or you have a specific use in mind for the finished product. The recipe has a <1% drop rate from Warp Hunters in Terokkar Forest.
Crafting: 1x[item]Broiled Bloodfin[/item] requires 1x[item]33823[/item]
Farming: [item]33823[/item] can only be fished from the waters in Deadwind Pass.
But Why Would I Go to the Trouble?
Well, aside from being able to provide healthy and helpful snacks to yourself, your friends and family out of the goodness of your heart, you can also turn a tidy profit through cooking. A lot of buff food is sought after on the Auction House, particularly on weekends (when people are buying last minute raid consumables), and you can easily make some spare cash.
Lets take a look at some of your potential profit margins for big sellers:
Spicy Crawdad: 1g 46s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 29g 20s)
Fisherman’s Feast: 1g 57s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 31g 40s)
Blackened Basilisk: 1g 50s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 30g)
Crunchy Serpent: 1g 24s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 24g 80s)
Poached Bluefish: 1g 1s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 22g)
Golden Fish Sticks: 1g 59s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 31g 80s)
Warp Burger: 1g each, median buy out (20 Stack: 20g)
Skullfish Soup: 2g 75s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 55g)
Spicy Hot Talbuk: 1g 25s each, median buy out (20 Stack: 25g)
So, say you farm a 20 stack of each of the above in a given week. Your profits from cooking for the week would be: 269g 20s. That’s roughly the equivalent of 25 daily quests. And, any extras you have left over, you can keep for yourself or give out to friends and guildmates for raid consumables.

I got the recipe for Broiled Bloodfin from the cooking daily some time back. WoWHead lists it as coming from the quest reward, so I doubt it’s changed:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=33869#contained-in-item
While it also shows a ‘dropped by’ for a Warp Hunter, given that it’s 1 in ~94000, I’d say that was contaminated data, not an actual event.
As a man with 4, 375 cooks and 3, 300+ cooks I heartily endorse this post!
Go forth and learn, and stop sending me raw mats!
lol, just teasing Zep, send away.
