THM to Host Hunter Recruits

A new service is currently in development here on THM that should go live “Soon” (likely within the next month or so).

What Is It?

THM will start hosting a “hunter recruitment” service whereby guilds of any kind (Raiding, Casual, PvP, etc) on any server (US, EU, etc) of any faction (horde or alliance) will be able to browse lists of available hunters currently looking for guilds.

Why Is It Special?

The THM Hunter Recruitment Service will be different from your usual run-of-the-mill guild recruitment service in that:

Why Was It Created?

Development began on this service when it became apparent that, due to over-population on many servers, recruitment became a distinct difficulty for many hunters. Finding a guild that fits your needs is hard in and of itself. Finding a guild that fits your needs, and has an opening for a hunter? Even more rare. This service was created to help hunters browse guilds that they know are interested in recruiting more hunters, and for guilds looking to fill a hunter slot find quality players that will enrich their community.

Currently this service is still under development, and some aspects may be subject to change. A formal “press release” will be issued once this service opens up to public beta testing. Feedback as development continues is certainly welcomed and encouraged, and a “closed beta” may be made available on an invitation-only basis in the near future for those that wish to provide continual feedback throughout the development process.

Hmm, interesting idea. I have a hunter as a main and I recall how difficult it was to get her into raids — especially when it became known that I also had a priest and a lot of experience healing as one.

Now, the question becomes how successful you think this project will be. While I can see hunters coming to the site (I assume fans and regular members will post their profiles/ads/whatever), but I’m not sure if you could ensure that guilds looking to fill hunter slots will come here first to get that done.

Awesome idea, though! Good luck with it!

Very cool. I’ll definitely be using it when it comes up.

So far, the trick seems to be developing the overall framework to support the system. I’ve been doing some testing with various CMS (Content Management Systems) frameworks, and so far I’ve only been somewhat satisfied with how well they handle the task. Which means I’ll likely end up having to design the whole system from the ground-up, lol.

Doing it that way will take longer, certainly, but will probably be worth it in the end.

On the issue of getting guilds to use the service: I’ve actually seen a ton of traffic come to this site directly from guild web sites and forums, so I’m not too worried about it. At the moment, advertising isn’t high on my “To Do/Priority” list, since the service hasn’t even gone to closed beta yet. :P I’ll figure it out when the time comes. :)

Lass, have you looked at vBulletin? It’s not free; I’ve no idea what kind of budget, if any, you have in mind. But it is one of, if not the, most flexible CMS around at a reasonable price.

Good luck!

Kes — I have thought about vBulletin. I’m not entirely sure it’ll be exactly what I want, though. I’m probably being overly fussy about it, but I have something specific in mind. Its just a matter of finding a way to do it that matches the picture in my head, and I’m thinking some pre-packaged framework probably won’t cut it. (Which isn’t to rag on CMS.)
