This is Why I’m Hot

One of the really fun things about playing my rogue is taking my revenge on poor, unsuspecting souls, for all the times I’ve found myself stun-locked into oblivion. I can’t count the number of times poor Lass and Anth have been doing their respective things in the battlegrounds, only to suddenly find themselves completely incapacitated, and then–dead. Without so much as a single opportunity to save themselves. It’s infuriating! But only if you’re on the receiving end…

I spent most of last night working on my rogue, in one way or another. The first part of the evening I spent in the battlegrounds (AV, to be specific) with a good friend of mine and PvE rogue extraordinaire. (We won 3, lost 2, and I discovered that you get 11300 xp for turning in the BG daily!) He and I staked out Iceblood Graveyard, and just camped there waiting for unsuspecting horde (clothies were especially fun!) to run by.

As we picked people off, it occurred to me… there was nothing I hated dealing with more on Lass and Anth than a multi-rogue team-up, running around stunning people and ripping them apart. And, in that light, it became exponentially more satisfying to be part of said team. Because I knew, somewhere in the world, there was a person sitting at their computer gritting their teeth in frustration as my friend and I locked them up and tore them to pieces. And it was (partially) because of me. It warmed my heart.

After such a satisfying experience, I couldn’t help but look for ways to make it that much better. A quick Google search turned up plenty of results for tips on stun-locking. One article I found was: How to Do a Perfect Rogue Stunlock in World of Warcraft. The author of the article explains that “the key is patience”. The author goes on to describe what they feel is the best rotation to use while attempting to stun-lock an enemy (obviously from the perspective of someone who plays on a PvP server). Their instructions are to open with a Cheap Shot, build combo points, and then do a 4-5 point Kidney Shot, then Gouge, re-stealth, and start over from the beginning. (All of which strikes me as pretty standard, common-sense stuff.)

I was also able to find plenty of demonstrative videos on the subject. One example of that would be a relatively well-done tutorial video (featuring the standard sub-par “metal” music included in all rogue videos) found here. The thing I liked about this particular video is that the creator stopped the footage and highlighted what he/she was doing, each time they executed a step in the process, which I found extremely helpful, since most stun-lock rotations are over so quickly that they can be hard to follow.

Once finished with the battlegrounds, I made my way back to Nagrand to grind out the rest of 66 on the ethereals hanging around Oshu’gun. After pick-pocketing and drops, I made about a 40g profit and got a couple nice green and blue drops to sell and disenchant, so it was a pretty good night. I ended up with more than enough lockboxes to max out my lockpicking skill after ding’ing, which also made me pretty happy. (I hate being the noobrogue who doesn’t have their lockpicking maxed.)

3 levels to go!

There really are few things more frustrating than being stunlocked to death. Especially as a caster - I go down so quickly there’s really zero chance for me to do anything but frantically mash buttons. Add to that the ridiculous Cloak of Shadows, and yeah, I’d have to say rogues are pretty powerful at the moment. ;)
